Saudi Arabia Changes Decade-Old Law

Saudi Arabia just lifted a ban on cinemas that has been around for decades. The powerful prince who is big on social reforms made all of this possible. This action is causing a lot of controversy.

“Commercial cinemas will be allowed to operate in the kingdom as of early 2018, for the first time in more than 35 years,” said the culture and information ministry. Apparently, the Saudi government is planning to start licensing cinemas as soon as possible.

According to many, “this marks a watershed moment in the development of the cultural economy in the kingdom.”

The primary purpose is to project an image of not being like ISIS. Actually Saudi Arabia is like ISIS-just more formal and ceremonial about their tortures and executions. Iran considers hangings from construction skyhooks formal & ceremonial- so as Turkish PM Erdogan said “Islam is Islam”.
