Peddling his new memoir in a People interview published Wednesday, Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) addressed speculation that he may be considering a run for president in 2020.
“Yeah, I’m not going to do that,” he confirmed.
His wife and daughter backed him up. “It’s very flattering, really,” said Franken’s wife, Franni,. “It’s kind of an affirmation that Al did exactly what he said he would do, be a work horse and not a show horse.”
“I was just at a party with people I hadn’t seen in a long time and they were asking if he was going to run and they were hoping he would. No thanks,” said the former “Saturday Night Live” star’s daughter, Thomasin. “Not going to happen.”
Franken said that he plans to focus his attention on improving ObamaCare and fighting the GOP’s “just dreadful” bill, which attempts to repeal and replace it. He’s also steadfast in his determination to “get to the bottom of” whether or not Trump’s campaign colluded with the Russians, “who are undermining our democracy.”
